This AJPW tag team tournament goes back to December 1977. Dory Funk Jr. and Terry Funk defeated The Original Sheik and Abdullah The Butcher by Disqualification to win the first one (it was called the Open Tag League tournament at the time) in Tokyo at Kuramae Kokugikan in 14:43 when The Sheik punched out the referee. Both teams were tied with 12 points going into this match. The win gave The Funks 14 points total to jump ahead of Giant Baba and Jumbo Tsuruta who had 13 points.
Atsuki Aoyagi, Rising HAYATO, Ryo Inoue, and Shouta Kofuji defeated MUSASHI, Seiki Yoshioka, Hikaru Sato, and Seigo Tachibana.
Hokuto Omari and Kumaarashi defeated Kuroshiro TOKYO Japan and Takashi.
Shotaro Ashino and Go Shiozaki defeated Dan Tamura and Daisuke Sekimoto
Madoka Kikuta, Yoshiki Kato, and ISHIN defeated Yuma Anzai, Jun Saito, and Natuki Doi.
Kento Miyahara, Hideki Suzuki, and Ryuki Honda defeated Davey Boy Smith Jr., Kengo Mashimo, and Naoya Nomura
Ren Ayabe and Talos defeated Xyon and Oddyssey to win the World's Strongest Tag League Finals. Ayabe and Talos were the Block A winners coming into the finals with 8 points. Xyon and Oddyssey won the Block B side with 10 points.
